Many people think of summer as the time between Memorial Day and Labor Day. This year’s holiday-to-holiday spans 98 days, or 107% of the calendar summer (from Friday’s solstice until the equinox). It makes you wonder: when our perceptions stretch reality by just a bit, what are the consequences?
In our world of health economics and outcomes research, precision matters. From clinical measures like blood pressure to outcomes like absence costs, slight variations can have ripple effects. What if every data point in a model were off by 7%? Could we still trust the conclusions?
Our research dives into this very question—and our unique data supports clarity. Take coding accuracy in claims data: in an ongoing study of people with Type 1 diabetes (T1D), we found that just 7.5% of individuals with an initial T1D claim met clinical algorithm criteria (two diagnoses and insulin use). We’ll be sharing more at ICPE this summer and presenting financial implications in the fall.
We’re expanding our focus on informal caregiving—a growing reality as more working-age individuals care for loved ones with Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and related dementias. Our findings show increasing early-onset diagnoses and associated lost work time and helps create a baseline to study the impact of emerging therapies. Are caregivers important to you?
